Can You Say "Bitter?"

It's just not fair!  How often have we heard that comment in our day to day interactions with our children, our colleagues, our relatives? More than any of us could count I'm sure.

And is there ever a "fair" solution to any of these (usually) trivial issues? Sometimes, especially when it comes to children and sharing. If one child gets a little more than the other, the war is on, and the proverbial "that's not fair!" will be expressed loudly and heatedly.  Is there an easy fix? That would be up to you, aka, the parent.

On a larger scale, let's take the workplace scenario. For example, a  local factory, whose employees must wear hairnets and earplugs. These are worn for the safety and protection of all employees, and most accept it without question. As usual though, there are those who have to object "it's not fair!" and try to get out of wearing a hairnet on, say, a bald head.

What will the Human Resources department do? If they have a good department head, a simple solution will be found that suffices for the majority. There will never be 100% agreement on anything in this situation, and this is true with ALL adult "it's not fair" circumstances. Don't you agree?

Another scenario would be the world scene. Do you, the reader, see any "it's not fair" situations? Yes, there is more than a hint of sarcasm here -- a better question is, do you the reader, see any "it's completely fair"  situations, anywhere on the face of this earth?

The point I am getting at, is that "it's just not fair!" that world leaders, politicians, big business and corporate executives are able to vote themselves large annual pay raises, while (recently) insulting many of our seniors with an extra $1.55 per month on a monthly income that is already a challenge to survive on.

Those guys are not interested in the survival of their own people, let alone the survival of the earth! So when you learn about new incentives for a "greener earth" you know it's just a bunch of hogwash. The bottom line is always money, as we all well know. Good old-fashioned GREED rules the lives and personalities of our so-called "leaders." Leaders of what? In my personal opinion, they are simply outlaws in nice clothes, and "lead" the way to their own profit and corruption. What's minimum wage again?

Dare I speak my mind in this country with it's so called "freedom of speech" laws? Frankly, I am somewhat nervous about bluntly stating any realities. I could quickly find myself charged with a crime that I did not commit, and land in jail for an attitude adjustment.

On the bright side though, I would get three meals a day and a warm place to live! You taxpayers would have to put out roughly $30,000. for my annual upkeep. My teeth would be fixed. I could get some new glasses! All my meds would be provided. After my daily shower, nice fresh clean clothing. A social life that just wouldn't quit, and no secular job to worry about. Sounds almost like a holiday to me...

Instead, I work two jobs to support myself, and earn less than $12,000. per year. My simple lifestyle leaves much less of a carbon footprint than most, because I cannot afford a car or any of the trappings that go with it, eg, gas, insurance, etc. My feet are my transport, and cause no pollution at all.

Unfortunately, I also cannot afford a dentist or an optometrist, because after I pay for groceries and my one luxury in life, Cable TV and internet, my monthly income is all gone. Thankfully, I do not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. I also don't go to movies, theatres or restaurants unless my grown-up children treat me.

And that's okay, living a minimalist life is interesting and challenging to say the very least. I just find it infuriating and frustrating to see how much money gets spent on completely useless stuff, while children the world over are suffering. Sure you hear lots of big words, bragging up the alleged poverty fighting programs, but that's all it is -- big, empty words. How distressing for our future adult citizens! I wouldn't be surprised if  these surviving grown up children decided to legalize euthanism for the old fogies who destroyed their planet, and made their lives miserable.

So that's my tirade, and I hope you liked it. I feel much better now.
